Evaluate the limit lim⁡x→0+∫x2xsin⁡mttn dt(m,n∈N).\lim_{x \to 0+} \int_x^{2x} \frac{\sin^m t}{t^n}\,dt \quad (m, n \in \mathbb{N}).

Solution (official)

We use the fact that sin⁡tt\dfrac{\sin t}{t} is decreasing in the interval (0,π)(0, \pi) and lim⁡t→0+0sin⁡tt=1\lim\limits_{t \to 0+0} \dfrac{\sin t}{t} = 1. For all x∈(0,π2)x \in \left( 0, \frac{\pi}{2} \right) and t∈[x,2x]t \in [x, 2x] we have sin⁡2x2x<sin⁡tt<1\dfrac{\sin 2x}{2x} < \dfrac{\sin t}{t} < 1, thus (sin⁡2x2x)m∫x2xtmtn dt<∫x2xsin⁡mttn dt<∫x2xtmtn dt,\left( \frac{\sin 2x}{2x} \right)^m \int_x^{2x} \frac{t^m}{t^n}\,dt < \int_x^{2x} \frac{\sin^m t}{t^n}\,dt < \int_x^{2x} \frac{t^m}{t^n}\,dt, ∫x2xtmtn dt=xm−n+1∫12um−n du.\int_x^{2x} \frac{t^m}{t^n}\,dt = x^{m-n+1} \int_1^2 u^{m-n}\,du. The factor (sin⁡2x2x)m\left( \dfrac{\sin 2x}{2x} \right)^m tends to 1. If m−n+1<0m - n + 1 < 0, the limit of xm−n+1x^{m-n+1} is infinity; if m−n+1>0m - n + 1 > 0 then 0. If m−n+1=0m - n + 1 = 0 then xm−n+1∫12um−n du=ln⁡2x^{m-n+1} \int_1^2 u^{m-n}\,du = \ln 2. Hence, lim⁡x→0+0∫x2xsin⁡mttn dt={0,m≥nln⁡2,n−m=1+∞,n−m>1.\lim_{x \to 0+0} \int_x^{2x} \frac{\sin^m t}{t^n}\,dt = \begin{cases} 0, & m \ge n \\ \ln 2, & n - m = 1 \\ +\infty, & n - m > 1. \end{cases}
